Methods in Archeology


Several different methods are used Archeologists. Included in these methods  research, fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and dating methods. A proper understanding of the Archeological methods requires understanding the relationship of Archeology and History. It also requires understanding the problems that each Archeological method has and the assumptions on which they are based. The problems and assumptions of Archeological methods can and do affect results. So is important to understand the methodology of Archeology. Such an understanding makes it possible to examin individual claims rather than simply assuming their accuracy.

The methods used in Archeology have their problems as well as assumptions on which they are based. These problems and assumptions can and often do affect the results. However understanding such problems and assumptions is important to checking the validity of claims. The alternatives are either out right denying claims or accepting them on blind faith.
