Large Solar Storm Sends Plasma at Earth

The storm posed only a small  threat but should have caused some spectacular northern lights at northern latitudes. The the flare was first detected late Sunday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The resulting coronal mass ejection hurled plasma particles at the Earth at an unusually fast speed. The initial radiation from the flare reached the Earth within hours, but the plasma arrived this morning.
